Frequently Asked Questions about SERRA sawmills
Our sawmills are available for log lengths of 7 or 9 meters and can also be adapted to the basic cutting length by means of an extension. The longest sawmill from SERRA had a base frame of 23 meters.
Yes. We work with leasing companies who will contact our customers directly to discuss financing options.
Theoretically, this is possible with some models. However, as such a conversion involves considerable effort and expense, we do not recommend it.
Yes, all SERRA sawmills are suitable for use at extreme temperatures. They are currently in operation on all continents – including in regions such as Scandinavia or Siberia. Nevertheless, we do recommend the use of a special hydraulic oil that is approved for temperatures as low as –45°C.
Our customer service team will first try to clarify any questions over the phone or in a video-call. If this is not possible, there is always a SERRA service technician available, or we can arrange for technicians from WINTERSTEIGER Woodtech GmbH to visit your site.
Yes, it is possible to retrofit hydraulic components, as long as there is sufficient space in the base frame. When purchasing a new machine, we recommend installing additional control valves to allow for later activation.
Delivery times vary depending on machine type and which control components are fitted. Please note that it may be difficult to give a precise delivery date, for example due to procurement problems.
Yes, in January 2019 we became part of WINTERSTEIGER Woodtech GmbH, a subsidiary of WINTERSTEIGER Holding AG from Ried im Innkreis, Austria. This means you profit from the comprehensive service offered by a global enterprise.
The log diameter is the distance over which the horizontal carriage can be moved. The maximum cutting width is limited by the cutting unit and the saw blade guides.
Hot-dip galvanized surfaces are among the most durable for mobile units. However, the design of some models, in particular hollow frames, makes it impossible to apply this type of surface finish.
At SERRA, we offer tailor-made solutions for all areas of application. Our machines are fully customizable and, if a few specific measures are taken, they can even be retrofitted later.
A wider band saw blade offers greater stability and output as well as a premium-quality cut.
With an additional manual stop, it is possible to saw logs from a length of 0.80 meters upward.
SERRA machines are manufactured in Bavaria, on the shores of the picturesque Lake Chiemsee. And although the name wouldn’t necessarily suggest a German product, we are proud that our machines are produced in Germany.
Yes, different band saw blades should be used depending on the wood type. For softwood, we recommend saw blades with a cutting angle of 18° or 22°. The angle should be reduced slightly when sawing hardwood; saw blades with a cutting angle of 16° and a somewhat narrower kerf are ideal. Alternatively, you can regrind a used saw blade with a cutting angle of 18°.
Depending on the grinding tool and conditions of use, a saw blade can be resharpened around 30 to 60 times.
